00:22 ROBIN

Well, hello everyone. My name is Robin J. Emdon, and I'm an accountability coach and the author of GetResultsology® - The Science of Getting Stuff Done! I work with people who run their own business, no boss, distractions everywhere and never enough hours in the day.

Together, we cut through the noise, sharpen their focus and follow through on the big ideas that actually move the needle.

That's what I call the Momentum Formula.

Do it today, profit tomorrow and repeat!

So if that's the kind of breakthrough that you've been looking for then you're in exactly the right place.

And speaking of being in exactly the right place, I am delighted to welcome our guest expert today, Gina Knox. Gina is a financial strategist for small business owners with inconsistent income.

A former QuickBooks researcher turned coach, Gina's helped clients save over 9 million dollars and build six and seven figure wealth portfolios.

Creator of Small Business Money School and the Seven Figure Wealth Mastermind, Gina teaches entrepreneurs to stop panicking about cash flow and start building lasting wealth. Gina is a Mexican mom, art school grad, hobby potter, film photographer, and proud money nerd.

Gina, welcome to GoalBusters!

GINA
Thank you. Thank you so much for having me.

ROBIN
You're very welcome. Whereabouts in the world are you, Gina?

GINA
I am currently in New York City, but I live in Austin, Texas, and I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area.

ROBIN
Oh, my goodness me. You move around. That's fantastic. Because these are all just around the corner for people living in America, aren't they?

GINA
Literally across the country.

ROBIN
Yeah. Literally across the country. Across the continent, they are mind blowing distances for us Brits. And talking of mind blowing, I'm waffling on. Shall we do the questions instead?

GINA
Let's do the questions.

Alright. I'll bring the clock up on the screen.

And there it goes. Gina, could you tell me, please, who is your ideal client?

02:40 GINA – Ideal Client
My ideal client is a small business owner or a solopreneur making anywhere from thirty thousand dollars a year in revenue to three million dollars a year in revenue. We work with all different types of industries, business models, and revenue levels.

ROBIN
Fantastic. That's very clear and easy to understand. So maybe less easy to understand or maybe not. What is the problem or problems that you solve?

03:10 GINA – Problem Solved
So as you heard, I'm a money coach. I solve money problems. And, really, the ultimate goal I have my for my clients is to be a wealthy business owner. And in order to be a wealthy business owner, there's kind of three stages that we have to go through.

First, we have to stabilize the business. Most business owners, the business is the primary source of income in the household. And so if the business is unstable, well, wealth goes out the window. There's nothing that we can even do.

So we stabilize the business.

Once we stabilize the business, we work on increasing owner's pay. How much money are you personally taking home from your business? And we want to get you to a place where you're consistently paying yourself the same amount of money every month regardless of sales and that that money is enough to pay your bills and do part three, which is start actually building wealth outside of your business, setting aside for retirement, starting investing in the market, potentially real estate, paying down personal debt, and that's that last piece where you can finally become work optional from your business entirely.

So lots of problems, a plethora of problems throughout those three phases, but those are kind of the three phases that we work through.

ROBIN
Yeah. And all critically important phases. I mean, I was leaning in there listening hard because you can't you can't miss one out. You've gotta have all three.

GINA
Yeah.

ROBIN
You just have to be building towards three.

Otherwise, what's the point?

GINA
Yeah.

ROBIN
Anyway yeah. Great. Perfect. So what is one valuable free action that the audience can implement that will help them to solve that problem?

04:35 GINA – Valuable Free Action (VFA)
I would say locate your personal bank account over the last six months and see how much money you've actually paid yourself, not what you thought you paid yourself or what you wish you paid yourself, but what literally landed in your personal bank account. And if you see that that number is inconsistent or zero, that's a really good indicator that you have a cash flow management problem in your business. And most people think, I just need to earn more money. I just need to hustle harder. No. You don't need to hustle harder. You really just need a cash flow management process first, and then we'll work on making more money through that.

ROBIN
Interesting. Okay. Yeah. Brilliant. Thank you. Yeah. And I wonder how many people there are, out there who really are not aware of what they're drawing down or even if it's affordable and sustainable.

GINA
Yeah.

ROBIN
Absolutely. Alright. So now that we have a better understanding of what you do, let's dive briefly into GoalBusting the point of our this podcast which is focusing on how to maximize productive time to achieve your business goals. Could you share any tips or advice for someone looking to improve their productivity habits?

05:40 GINA – Valuable Productive Action (VPA)
I think my answer might surprise listeners.

The best way, in my opinion, to improve your productivity is to love yourself.

You have to love the way you uniquely work and know the way you uniquely work. I think a lot of people work hard to work against themselves and versus being like, this is how I my natural mode of working, and I love that. So I'm a very messy person.

I have a lot of clutter in my house, but then I also have, like, thirty tabs open on my Chrome browser. And I have a lot of things going on, and I jump between tasks. And I took… I used to spend a lot of time hating that about myself and trying to work hard against it. And now that I just work with how I normally work, I get so much more done.

ROBIN
Yes. And I absolutely adore what you've just said. I completely agree with you. It's so important that you understand how you work and the element that you've brought in.

You love how you work. I do like the fact that you've moved into a hotel room in New York to get away from your chaos. No. I don't think you have really.

But I completely identify with only thirty tabs, really.

Just thirty?

I've got that in one window. I've got four other windows.

GINA
Yeah. I have windows too. I have windows too.

ROBIN
So, yeah… But such an important point. And I would say, I don't know. I mean, I've written a book about how to get more productive.
And if I had to pick one thing that it that stands out as it's gotta be in the top three, it probably is number one. You've nailed it there. Completely agree with you. Absolutely.

Alright. So in the remaining time, could you share, what should I have asked you today that I didn't and your answer, please?

07:25 GINA – Bonus Material
You should have asked me the cost of emotional stress around money. So a lot of people think about profit. They think about systems, and I do too. But the biggest cost that you might not be paying attention to is how much emotional energy you are using, thinking about your money, waking up in the middle of the night, worrying about your money, all of the stress. It's not free. It's actually trickling down into every decision that you make in your business and costing you real dollars.

And so as much as it's important for me and my work to help my clients with their systems and their processes, we focus just as much, if not more, of our energy on coaching the emotional aspect of money, how it's in affecting your decision making, and really how to go from feeling panicked, which I think panic is the most expensive emotion when it comes to money, how to go from feeling panicked to go to neutrality.

And then I take it a step further. I call it unbothered energy. I want you to be unbothered, meaning something happens and you go, yep. Okay.

Moving on. Right? It's like not even a thought when an incoming negative financial circumstance comes your way. So I think that we really, a lot of times, can not credit how important that part of money is, and it's really kind of it's kind of the whole shebang. When you start untangling your money habits and behaviors, it all comes down to your emotions.

ROBIN
Gosh. Yes. What a powerful answer and a powerful question. You asked the question. I didn't even think of the question. You thought of it.
I completely agree with you. I was thinking actually the other thing that if it doesn't work, nothing works, and that is your key relationship with a partner.

GINA
Yes.

ROBIN
But that that probably would be number one on the list because that can really mess you up. But money is gives you a really good before you may use the pun, run for your money.

And actually, of course, money can be a major dam can cause major damage to your relationships. So you’re right.

GINA
Well, the reason I got into money is I walked up to the QuickBooks booth, and I said, I wanna work for you guys because money is the second sided reason for divorce in America. So it is effect. Affects both sides.

ROBIN
Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely.

Completely agree with you. And, yeah, I talk about this a lot in my book, but I love it when I hear it from someone else's perspective.
It's a it's a great affirmation for me, but it's also it needs repeating and repeating and repeating.

And, yeah. And also, of course, the other thing is when you're panicking about money and which means that you need to make more, that's the worst mindset you could possibly be in. I'm a I'm a chronic procrastinator by trade… sort of… and that's what triggered me to be back in the industry. But the point is that panicking about money triggers massive procrastination, which is the antithesis of where you need to be. You need to be resourceful. So if you can get your mindset right, which is what you do for a living, Gina, after all, then you've got a better chance of dealing with it than just continuing to panic. I love it.

GINA
100 Percent.

ROBIN
Alright. So I do have we that we did all of that in seven minutes apart from the fact that Robin waffled on a bit over the time, but that was me, not you. And, that's my fault.

It's my podcast. I can do that. But I need to respect, our listeners and viewers' times, but I still have to ask you one more question, which is please a two-parter. One is how can people reach you?

And the other part is, is there, like, a valuable free resource they can get from you as well, which I always say, yeah, it's a cheeky question because the Americans kinda like the word cheeky because it's not a word that's in common use over there. But the other thing is that it's not really cheeky. It's a serious point. People aren't always quite ready to push the button.

Oh, I actually wanna speak to this person, but they certainly wanna find out more about you. And so a valuable free resource from that person is usually by far the best way to do that.

11:25 GINA – Valuable Free Resource (VFR)
Yeah. So how you can interact with me, I have my website, www.GinaKnox.co, where there's all the information.

I hang out the most on Instagram @ginaknox. That's where I'm posting daily and interacting with people and DM’ing people.

I have my podcast, Small Business Big Money, where I speak a lot on all the topics. I have over two hundred episodes on business finance, personal wealth, business debt, all of it. And if you want a free way to get started, the best way is to come to my weekly, monthly class that I teach. It's called pay off by figures of debt even if you're constantly behind, and we really dive into the specific three strategies that you need to implement in your business to be paying off business debt and getting out of those really chronic debt cycles that businesses get stuck in.

And I teach those live, so I will be there. We can chat. You can interact with me, literally speak with me. So, I love those classes.

They're really great, and you get a lot of tangible, tangible takeaways from that course as well.

ROBIN
Fantastic.

GINA
Oh and I should say.. that's at www.ginaknox.co/free-training

ROBIN
Yes. You should say that. And you did say that, which is even better. We love it when you say that. Thank you so much.

And, yes, and just to stress the point you made there, which is fantastic, it mean when you say live, you stress that it's actually live. It’s not that it was recorded live. It's actually live.

GINA
I've I'm there every week.

ROBIN
That's fantastic. And we discussed proof beforehand that that it's that it's evergreen. It's ongoing. So it's although it's always a good idea because you never know.

People's plans change. You never know when they're gonna do the next one. So it's always a good idea just to book the next one. Yeah.
You know, make a decision and just go.

GINA
Exactly. And I do take vacations throughout the year, so it's not every perfect week, but, yes, get in the the link will always be up, and you can always register for whatever the next class is.

ROBIN
That's fantastic. We don't have vacations in the UK. We have holidays.

GINA
Oh, that's right.

ROBIN
But I know exactly what you mean. Fantastic. Gina, it's been a wonderful experience talking to you today. I feel like well, I feel like I've learned a fair bit, but I also feel like there's so much that I could learn from you, which is kind of the point of introducing you on our podcast because that's… you can't do it all in seven minutes. But you've given me a real flavor for what you do. And if I've understood that, I hope that I'm sure that the majority of our audience has too. So thank you so much, Gina Knox.

GINA
Thank you.

ROBIN

Robin was one of a small, invitation-only group selected for an intensive life-coach programme taught by Tony Robbins* and his faculty in 2001. Known to clients today as The Procrastination Slayer, Robin had a face-palm moment in 2019 when he realised it had taken him ten years to finish a six-year degree. That wake-up call launched his mission to master procrastination.

During the Covid lockdowns in 2020 he discovered that researchers had published more than 900 studies on procrastination in a single decade and pulled the most practical lessons from the strongest research and leading books to shape his momentum formula:
